Q. I've been told I should
remove my hummingbird feeders in September to encourage the birds to
migrate.
A.
Hummingbirds will migrate when thy are ready
to, regardless of feeder availability.
Their migration is dictated by
nature.
I actually encourage people to keep
their feeders out to give the hummers a little boost to help them along
the way.
There are no specific times to
remove hummingbird feeders.
1) It depends on the region of the
country you are in.
2) If your has any glass parts you
want to take it in before a freeze
Q. I am
concerned that the bird's feet will stick to the metal perches on my
feeder during the winter. What can I do?
A.
Not to worry! Ornithologists have determined
that birds have no sweat glands in their feet and therefore, with no
moisture present, will not freeze to metal feeder perches.
