Hopper Bird Feeders are feeders that have a landing platform instead of perches and has a "hopper" to hold bird seed.  These feeders can hold a good quality mixed see or again straight black oil sunflower seed.  Most of the feeders that are considers "Hopper" style have more air moving through it and the seed does not mold as easily.
