Planting Hostas Hosta Abiqua Drinking Gord

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After trial and error, we have come up with a standard way to plant hostas that seems to work for us.

  1.    Dig a hole bigger than you think you need.

  2.    Amend the soil the soil you removed, if you need to.

  3.    Pour the soil back in the hole so that it is in the shape of a cone, point side up.

  4.    Put the hosta on top of the "cone" and spread the roots over it, so that they look like lava coming down from a volcano.

  5. Back fill the hole with the remaining soil, do not compress or compact.

  6. Mulch

 

Remember - hosta roots grow outward.
