Below
are some of my favorite and classic thistle feeders, with comments on
why I like them. Also, if one strikes your fancy or meets your
needs, you can go right to one of the best places to purchase the
feeder by clicking on the photograph. I thought this might be convenient!
My #1 Thistle Feeder
This Droll Yankee tube thistle feeder I have had the mini thistle
feeder version for 10 years and the standard version for over 12 years.
Each is still in my yard feeding gold finches and I have no plans of
retiring either soon.
Mickey's Secret to goldfinch success
with the feeder below:
If you cut the perches back so that only 9/16" extend out from the
feeder, then only goldfinches and redpolls are small enough to feed
successfully.
The Upside Down Thistle Feeder is a must for anyone who loves
watching bird behavior and wants to give the goldfinches a place of
their own. I remember when the person who invented this feed was testing
it. I saw the prototype and thought, its so off the wall . . it's
just got to work! And it does! Redpolls can also hang upside
down and eat.
The
weatherproof vinyl tube is indestructible yet attractive. Lifetime
warranty against squirrel damage!

ports, 12"" Long Tube, 20"" Long Tube, and 28"" Long Tube".
Onyx Clever Clean 24" Nyjer Seed Feeder
The clever twist off base allows
you to dump chaff or debris each time you fill your feeder. This helps you
prevent mold toxins that can be deadly to birds.
The port design doesn't require another port opposite
it. This allows for independent placement on the tube which leaves greater
spacing between the ports. The result is unimpeded seed flow and easier.
With metal surrounding the Nyjer port openings, you can
feel confident using a delectable Nyjer Seed mix containing sunflower
chips without worrying about the squirrels destroying the tube.
Lifetime Warranty on squirrel damage Made in the U.S.A.
Use Straight Thistle or Nyjer in your feeders, it
is preferable to Goldfinches.
Also, keep the seed dry!
Wet thistle gets moldy and will stick together
and the birds will not be able to enjoy your efforts - and you will
not be able to enjoy them!
Note:
I do have photos of a lot of these feeders in
my yard, however, they are on slides and I have not yet invested in a
slide scanner. So this seemed like the best way to illustrate,
give info and allow you to purchase from the places I know are
reputable. MW
Of Course - you can always use a standard thistle bag, I have
listed some below:
